Sharing food and clothing has long been tradition in People’s Park. For many years, there was a “Free Box”, a free clothing exchange box, where people could drop off unwanted clothes donations to be made available to anyone who needed clothes. After many years the University changed their policy of toleration and began removing FreeBoxes installed by volunteers. There were clean-up and drop off issues, and perhaps an objection to economics of supplying free goods. Below are examples of some of the Free Boxes torn out by UC. People then began dropping clothes off at the rocks by the driveway, the “Free Rocks (Rox)”, where they are less sightly and less protected from the rain.
