Nader Says UC Regents Should Be Publicly Elected:
"Consumer leader Ralph Nader says the University of California Board
of Regents should be elected, rather than appointed by the governor, and
called on supporters of the idea to put a constitutional initiative on the
ballot.
"'Right now the regents are a closed-door, self-perpetuating clique
almost totally immune from public scrutiny and public opinion,' Nader said
earlier this week during a visit to San Francisco.
'This is an autocracy
governing a tax-supported university.'"
